1070s – William the Conqueror chose the site to build a new castle.
1170s – Henry II rebuilt portions of the castle using stone to replace the earlier wood construction.
1312s – King Edward III was born at Windsor Castle.
1360s – Edward III erects St. George’s Hall for the results of the Garter Knights.
1477s – Edward IV begins construction of St. Georges Chapel.
1483s – Edward IV of England is buried in Windsor’s Chapel.
1624s – Windsor Castle is taken over by Oliver Cromwell following the Battle of Edgehill.
1670s – Charles II constructs new state apartments, including the King’s Dining Room, and the Queen’s Presence and Audience Chambers.
1778 – The Royal family moves into the Queen’s Lodge.
1823 – The Queen’s Lodge is demolished.
1861 – Prince Albert dies at Windsor Castle.
1952 – King George VI is buried in St. George’s chapel.
1192 – St. George’s Hall is damaged in great fire.
