Windsor Castle is located in the little town of Windsor in West Berkshire, England. It is located on top of a hill, next to the River Thames.
The river helped the castle gain money, as a lot of boats passed the river. The ruler took this opportunity to tax every single boat that passed by the castle. This helped the castle become richer. This money could then be used to buy supplies for the knights and all the people who worked within the castle.
The river was an excellent defense feature for Windsor Castle.
If an enemy was to arrive in Windsor, looking to attack the castle, the river was big enough for the knights to have time to get prepared at the top of the castle. The defense would have been quite easy from there, the knights had full control of the enemy, being at the top of castle, meant that they could shoot their arrows down and kill several before the opponents could reach the top of the hill, where the castle stood, 18.13m above sea level .
The picture at the top of the page, shows the River Thames, and where it runs.
The box shows where the castle is located.
